I  DARE  YOU !

NEW  YEAR  CHALLENGE !

I DARE YOU....... Read through the Bible in one year!

(See http://glendakempharper.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html Master outline number one The Bible.)

To Christians: It is an instruction. Don’t let this be said of you: “Your mistake is that you don’t know the Scriptures, and you don’t know the power of God.” (Matthew 22:29) or “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6)

Christians, stop running around with the individual ingredients of a ‘cake’ and you don’t know what the end product looks like. Is it a birthday cake? A Christmas cake? Or  a cupcake? Or a pancake? Let no one lead you astray!

Make a promise to God that you will never go on to the computer or your phone and never on facebook before you have read at least 6 verses in His word, but preferably a topic or chapter. Set your alarm one hour earlier each morning. I dare you! (Not from a devotional book, that you keep for where you have time to kill or waiting for someone.) Read the undiluted Word of God. His voice.

There are two ways of reading. The one is an intimate quiet time where you meditate and study and communicate with God through His word. A must. The other is where you replace it with a magazine or novel or TV watching. Just reading for pleasure.

“Study this book of instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. (Joshua 1:8)

Non Christians:   Read it because it is the all time best seller. It is the best book ever written. Read it for it’s literacy value, it’s poetry, it’s human stories, its wisdom, its future prophesies... many things can be added here. Don’t criticise anything Biblical until you have read the entire Bible.

Where is there another book that says this about itself:
“ ...sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. (Hebrews 4:12-13)

“It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”

“Teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” (2 Timothy 3:16)

“Ask Me and I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come.” (Jeremiah 33:3)

“These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us..” 1 Corinthians 10:11)

Recommendation: Please invest in a New Living Translation Bible. The King James version is too difficult.  You won’t enjoy something if you don’t understand it. What I do is to read the two in conjunction with each other.  My first Bible I read was the Living Bible.  I know you can can read from the Internet but it is so nice to have the book with paper pages in your hand and to tick off each book as you finish reading it.

If you go to this blog's How to Read and Pray you have the book of Mark there and it can serve as a example of how to make your Bible personal and talk to God about what you are reading. At the end of Mark there also is some chapters from the book of John which are intimate to my reading.  The blue in these writings are always my words to God. So you can start today by reading the book of Mark. It is right here under your nose.

Don’t read the Bible from the first page to the end. It consists of many books. Start with the book of John.  I will see if I can find a year planner or you can do it yourself on the internet.  I suggest you always finish one book before starting another book. Get in to one book at a time.

My new year prayer for you is that God will bless you and that His will be done in your life.  May you love the Lord your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your might.

CHRISTMAS  2011
I remember my first Christmas with Jesus, 1997. I was lying in a hot bath and my troubled mind went in to an enquiring conversation with my new found Lord about him having been a baby. This is the relationship that I have with my Daddy and this is how I needed to see it to understand it from where I was then.
Baby Jesus.
Lord Jesus, you are so small, so helpless…so in need. Help me understand my Lord as a baby.

I am a tiny baby, so that it is easy to fit snugly and warmly into your heart.
Although I am helpless, don’t forget I was conceived by the Holy Spirit of God. We are three. Now only Jesus is a baby. God is God and Holy Spirit is God and I am God.

What now Lord Jesus. I have this tiny baby in my heart. What now?

What would it be like if you had given birth to a baby?

Lord that would change my life!
I would have to surround myself with baby things. I’d have to change the way I live.
I’d need room in my house. I’d have to take out some furniture and put new ones in.
I’d have to spend time and money – my old life would be gone.
A baby is so demanding. It needs to be fed and played with. I would talk to it all the time. Sometimes it is hard and I would want to run away. Sometimes it is so cute and rewarding.

What would happen if you did not feed and care and talk with the baby?

Even if I put all its ready made bottles next to it (Bibles all over the house) If I put its clothes, bathwater, nappies all ready and tidy for use; if I walk away and left it alone …. Baby would die!

Do you see why I introduce myself to you as a baby? Not only to go through all the stages ages and family life and hassles as you do, but so that you can know about beginnings.
I have to be fed – Read your Bible.
Talk to me – pray
Make room for me – change your life.

Lord, what happened to you inside of me when I left you?

You ‘died’ to me. I let you choose your way, but I never ever left you.
Don’t you remember? You tried to forget me but you always felt uncomfortable and empty. The weight always pulled you down.
You can never abort me. Even if you die to me.

Then I became alive again through the Holy Spirit. New life in You!

You have to feed me and as I grow I fill up more of you. Eventually my hands grow neatly into yours. I can touch and hug people through you. My head pushes its way into yours – gradually and sometimes with a burst of growth, I look through your eyes and borrow your ears. My Father and I, Holy Spirit and you are all interwoven.

How big are you now in me, Jesus?

At the end, I fill your whole body; then ‘we’ leave this body and go to heaven.

God, you are not a God who revealed Yourself to people in the Bible and then stopped. You are a living God who still talks to us.

A blessed Christmas to you. I wish you Jesus. In Him we have all we need.
My song for you.
(To the tune of Boney M'  Teliz Navidad “I want to wish you a merry Christmas".
I want to wish you a joyful Jesus
I wish to wish you a joyful Jesus
I want to wish you a joyful Jesus
In the centre of your heart.

The Son of God
The Son of God
The Son of God given to us as a token of love

I want to wish you a joyful Jesus
I want to wish you a joyful Jesus
I want to wish you a joyful Jesus
In the centre of your heart.

For He wears the crown
For He wears the crown
For He wears the crown into the Kingdom of love for us

A Christmas present to Jesus. (You can choose your own time to give to Him. Write the letter on a card. Wrap it and put it under your tree with the other presents.)

“Dear Jesus,
This is my gift to you:
30 minutes of every day this year;
I will give to you.
With lots of love,
From ……..............      "
